A

access control list (ACL) A permission system that lists users or groups and the permissions that they are given to a file.

accounts Data structures and procedures used to identify individual users of a computer.

alias Defined command name that is equal to a regular command and may include the command's options and parameters.

American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) A language code set that uses 7-bit encodings, supporting only English.

anacron This program is a supplement to the cron utility to ensure that regular maintenance jobs are executed at reasonable intervals. It works by keeping a record of programs it should execute and the frequency, in number of days, with which it should do so.
