5. Crash Prevention and Recovery
Of all the things that can go wrong with a computer, the one that users typically want to avoid most is a crash. Actually, the words crash and its first cousin freeze are generic terms that cover a wide range of symptoms and causes, some far more serious than others.
Relatively low on the seriousness scale is an application crash or freeze. In the simplest case, the application quits itself (often referred to as an unexpected quit). You may have trouble relaunching the application at this point, but your computer is likely to run just fine otherwise. A bit more frustrating is the hang, or freeze.
