Chapter 10. Performing Maintenance with Mac OS X
To keep Mac OS X running smoothly, maintain top performance, and reduce the risk of computer problems, you need to perform some routine maintenance chores.
For example, you should empty the Mac OS X Trash folder periodically to save disk space, and you should organize your desktop icons from time to time to reduce clutter. It is also important to keep an eye on your Mac's free disk space to make sure it does not get too low. Finally, it is vital that you configure backups for your Mac to keep your irreplaceable documents safe.
