OPTIMIZING TRACK EFFECTS

The term effects in recording is short for audio special effects. Of course, everybody just uses the shortened form today. Strictly defined, an effect is anything that changes the sound from its original form. However, more loosely defined, the term is applied to audio signal processing hardware or software.

While GarageBand's built-in effects can add a lot to your songs, they also take a heavy toll on your Mac's processing power. If you have a G5 double-pumper, you'll probably never notice, but if you have G3 or a less-powerful G4, you need to know how to streamline your effects in order to get more tracks and fewer errors from GarageBand.
