A linear or sliding volume control.

fifth

A pleasing musical interval seven semitones or five notes above the tonic note. An example is G above C. When the band can't afford a quart.

flanger

An effect where the processed audio signal moves slowly in and out of time with the original signal.

flat

A note which is lowered one-half step in pitch. A place for British musicians to crash.

frequency

The cyclic variation of an audio signal in cycles per second or hertz (Hz). The hearing range of humans is usually said to be between 20Hz and 20,000Hz. It's often used to describe the pitch range of a sound. An example would be an equalizer can boost low frequencies.
