Abstract

It is often difficult or expensive to measure a physical quantity with a regular sensor. Many sensors are fragile, especially in the harsh environments common in the oil and gas industry. The cost, both financial and in effort, to install and maintain a sensor over the long term can be entirely saved if it is possible to calculate the desired value, instead of measuring it.
