Mac OS Desktop Elements
Besides the pointers, you're going to encounter several other items in your cruise around the Desktop. Most of these are icons—graphical representations of files, hard drives, programs, and the like. These icons let you see at a glance what you're working with. (Older operating systems used text alone to represent these items.) Unless you've been moving things about on your Mac, you'll encounter just a few icons on your Desktop. You can put more there or remove the existing ones if you like.
