Chapter 7. Page Layout with Layers and CSS
As I explained in Chapter 6, “Page Layout with Tables,” the technique of using tables for page design is reliable; it is supported in nearly every browsing environment, and, in a way, it is easy. With Dreamweaver, the process of designing pages with tables is—or at least can be—quite simple.
As page design has become more important in the browsing experience, style sheets—essentially additional formatting options—were developed and became widely supported as a way to both format page elements (like text) and also define page layout itself.
