Email has been in the news a lot recently. It used to be considered the professional, not to mention private, secure, and trackable, method of electronic communication over the Internet. Email is fast, (almost always) free, and accessible to anyone with a computer, smartphone, tablet, or e-reader and an Internet connection.
The privacy of email has been shown to be an illusion in many cases. Many (most?) email messages are not encrypted, so anyone with access to them can read them. Some newer email systems do provide automatic end-to-end encryption of messages.
