Computers started out as “calculation engines,” but although plenty of people use them for mathematical and scientific research and analysis, they’ve become digital companions that let you browse and create many types of media. In fact, it’s probably safe to say that the use of computers to perform complex calculations is less common that the use of computers for media development and enjoyment.

In this chapter, we show you how to share media with other family members using the Family Sharing feature.

Using Your Apple ID to Enjoy and Share Media

Your Apple ID is used to buy music or TV shows or anything else Apple is selling. In general, you should have only one Apple ID.

Technical stuff As of now, you can’t merge two Apple IDs. But you may actually want more than one Apple ID. For example, developers use Apple IDs to manage their apps, and authors use Apple IDs to manage their books. But if you’re an author or a developer, you need two different Apple IDs.
