Chapter 3

Enjoying Podcasts, News, and TV

IN THIS CHAPTER

Bullet Finding and enjoying podcasts

Bullet Reading the news

Bullet Watching TV on your Mac

Podcasts are very popular on all devices, including the Mac. They’re typically audio programs that are episodic in nature, either because they tell a story or provide information over time or because they’re keyed to changing events. In previous versions of macOS, you viewed and subscribe to Podcasts in the iTunes app. In macOS Catalina, you view and subscribe to podcasts in the Podcasts app.

If you like movies and TV shows, you’ll be happy to know that you no longer have to muck about iTunes to view movies and TV shows you purchase from the iTunes Store. They now reside in the TV app.

If you like to keep abreast of current events, you don’t have to subscribe to newspapers. macOS Catalina is totally green. You can find your favorite news sources and much more in the News app. Rain forests throughout the world breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Finding and Playing Podcasts

The heart of podcasts on your Mac is the Podcasts app. You can find it in the Dock or Launchpad — it’s purple with a white radio-wave kind of symbol from an antenna-like thing.
