Improving Machine Performance and Plant Layout

Certain lean methods apply directly to improving the effectiveness of machines, and the examples presented in this chapter focus on automatic cycling machines. Some of the methods presented can also be applied to processes that do not involve an automatic cycling machine, but most achieve better results when used with machines. A key point to think about is that you can use these methods not just to increase the effectiveness of machinery to increase capacity and sales, but also to avoid unnecessary investment and thereby improve your current ROI (return on investment).
