Cylindrical permanent magnet synchronous bearingless motors

The advantages of the permanent magnet type of bearingless motor can be summarized as (1) small size and lightweight, (2) high power-factor and high efficiency and (3) suspension forces that can be generated without excitation current in the main winding. In this chapter, some structures and a control system suitable for cylindrical permanent magnet synchronous bearingless motors are shown. Armature reaction flux is considered in this type of machine in order to regulate the rotor radial position accurately.
