Heating, current drive and fuelling of magnetic fusion power plants

Abstract

The roles and requirements of heating, current drive and fuelling systems are reviewed for existing and future devices, including power plants. State-of-the-art performance is recorded and development programmes are discussed. Unsurprisingly, developments for ITER concern the majority of programmes, but some activities relevant to power plants are underway. Capability gaps show that efficiency is a major hurdle for the heating and current drive systems, with reliability and steady-state performance being an issue for fuelling as well.
