Thermal spin polarization in bidimensional systems

Abstract

This chapter describes a nonequilibrium spin polarization in nanowires made of two-dimensional electron systems with spin–orbit interaction. Two types of nanowires are considered: the nanowires of two-dimensional electron gas and of two-dimensional crystals such as graphene. The spin polarization appears when either an external electric field or a temperature gradient is applied along the wires. When the wire is nonmagnetic, the induced spin polarization is in the wire plane and normal to the electric field (or temperature gradient). ...
