Chapter 12. Circuit Board and Motor Controllers
If small, smart flight controllers count as one of the breakthroughs that make drones possible, then surely the ease with which one can design small circuit boards and have them fabricated must be a part of the story. An individual maker can use one of a selection of open source tools to design a custom circuit board and have it fabricated in small quantities in a reasonable time for a reasonable price.
While these tools and services, combined with a little surface mount soldering, make it possible to design and build a controller every bit as integrated as the tiny toy drones, we will not target quite that level of integration.
