Chapter 14. A Bigger Frame

It’s time to build The Big One—the S500 (Figure 14-1). We’re not going to set any records for size, but this drone will literally be in a different class. It will weigh well over the 250-gram limit for requiring registration with the FAA in the US. In fact, the frame alone will weigh more than that. Despite, or perhaps because of this heavier frame, one of the main goals of this drone design will be to carry a useful payload. Like most people, I will probably load a camera and gimbal on it first, but the possibilities are endless.
