The boosh project presented a simple, effective manual pilot system. That pilot required an external ignition source to get started and, once lit, stayed lit continuously. That’s a workable approach, but when the wind blows the pilot out or you find you can’t reach the pilot easily to relight it, frustration mounts.
To ignite the low-pressure gas jets of the pilot, we need heat above 878°F (470°C). There are two reasonable ways to achieve this that we can control remotely: a spark or a heater element. We’ll discuss a couple simple spark mechanisms and describe the addition of a heater element to the boosh project.
