Over the course of the last decade or so there has been a lot of hype surrounding 3D printers and other emerging “rapid prototyping” technologies. At the same time, the development of ever-cheaper computer numeric control (CNC) milling and carving machines for in-home use means there are even more options for automated manufacturing in the home. The problem is, for most normal people, there really isn’t all that much use for keeping any kind of 3D printer or CNC machine in the home.
