Water rockets have been around a long time. Small hand-pumped water rockets were a staple when I was a kid. Larger water rockets started to blossom in the 1970s when soda manufacturers introduced the two-liter plastic soda bottle. Little did they know that they were packaging soda in a model rocket body!

The basic idea is pretty simple. Place a small amount of water in the soda bottle. Turn the bottle upside down and pump in pressurized air to about 60-75 psi. When the rocket is released, the pressurized air at the top of the bottle pushes the water out quickly, providing thrust. ...
