Chapter 13. Subsonic Aerodynamics
A lot of rocketry is what we call sport rocketry. We’re doing it for fun. At some point, though, you will want to do better. Maybe there is a local club competition coming up, a race for the Highest Altitude or Longest Duration Aloft Under a Parachute, and you want to compete and do well. Maybe you’re getting ready for a more serious competition, like the annual high school TARC competition, or NARAM (the National Association of Rocketry Annual Meet). Maybe you just want to see how much you can coax from your rockets. Whatever the reason, you want your rocket to fly higher or faster. That’s when you need to get a basic understanding of aerodynamics.
