In the “Dryer Messenger” project (MAKE Volume 34, makezine.com/go/dryermessenger), I’m confused by the power supply in the parts list. It specifies a 9V power supply, but the Arduino Nano takes 3.3V as input.

The Arduino Nano comes in 3.3V or 5V versions, and many different wall warts will work. Here the Nano’s voltage regulator is stepping the 9V supply down to 3.3V. I used the 3.3V Nano because the wi-fi module is a 3.3V-only part. Having them both at the same voltage just made things simple.
