THE YOUNGEST SLOWLY TODDLED OVER TO HER OLDEST SISTER, the equivalent of a quarter of her body weight precariously clutched in her tiny fingers. With a grin, she dropped the muddy brick, narrowly missing their toes. “Oh! Thanks!” the 6-year-old said, tactfully ignoring the near miss, and that the brick came from a previously built section. “Maybe you can find a little bit smaller one, from that pile?” Their parents and I, observing from a distance, exchanged knowing nods.
