Outside Broadcasts
Outside broadcasts are for events that cannot be provided from the studio. They are either transmitted live or recorded as if live. The ‘studio’ goes out to these events in the form of large vans full of technical equipment and galleries. Cables are run from the vans to the cameras and sound equipment. The production team sits in the broadcasting vans just as they would do in a studio. They are able to see the pictures being produced and to adjust and change them as necessary.
Sporting events are covered in this way and generally make-up, hair and wardrobe staff are not needed. However, concerts and theatre productions can entail a great deal of work for such personnel.
