Life Casts of Face or Body
A great deal of skill is required for the materials used in this work. The materials have ‘setting’ times and the work has to be done quickly, efficiently and safely. It is essential to practise thoroughly on hands or other parts of the body before attempting the face.
To take a face cast it is crucial to know what you’re doing. All but the nostrils are covered, which could be claustrophobic for the subject. You must have experience of having a face cast done of yourself, so that you know what it feels like at each stage. This will help you talk through and reassure the artist undergoing the cast.
