Chapter 12. Making difficult decisions in relation to your peers

Often, the experience in decision-making is that the building up of and use of allies is so important in ensuring success. Building support among peers may seem an irrelevant investment in the short term. But taking a wider view about what success is will often mean building and maintaining the support of key colleagues and networks.

The key strands can be:

  • clarity: being clear who the peers are who can ensure the success of your plans or put the kibosh on them;

  • conviction: being determined to work closely with your peers and not ignore them;

  • courage: putting in the energy to build support from others and not assuming that success just results from winning the intellectual argument; ...
