Rock Band represents the culmination of a long evolution of rhythm/music titles from Boston, Massachusetts-based developer Harmonix Music Systems. Prior to Rock Band, Harmonix had created a number of popular music games including Frequency, Amplitude, the Karaoke Revolution series, and, of course, the incredibly successful Guitar Hero series. Released in late 2007, shortly after Harmonix was acquired by MTV Games, Rock Band was an unequivocal commercial and critical success. The series has sold over 13 million copies to date, netting over $1 billion in revenues.
