When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

To paraphrase the great American poet Jerry Garcia, what a long, strange trip this has been! Making Java Groovy has consumed several years of my life, a fact that leaves me both horrified and endlessly amused. What I do know for sure, is that even though I’m the sole author, I never could have done it alone.
In late 2006, I attended a user group presentation[11] by Jason Rudolph on Grails that changed my life. He started me on my way into the wonderful world of Groovy. The fact that Dierk König et al. had written the fantastic Groovy in Action (Manning, 2007) sealed the deal.
