Susan was a mother whose kids came to her asking for a sled. They wanted one that was faster than the neighbors’ sleds. Instead of saying no, she spoke with her children about how sleds are made. Then they built one. Susan had been best in her class at math and sciences and, as a child, had spent lots of time helping out in her father’s carriage shop. She was exactly the sort of parent who could help her kids build a fast sled. Susan was the family member who fixed things and made things, and coached her children on building projects.
