Management accounting is a profession under fire. In the last few years a barrage of criticism has been leveled at the traditional techniques of management accounting, as well as at management accountants and financial controllers. The fusillade has come from the accounting press, other trade and academic journals, and from people within manufacturing organizations. The author recently conducted a (very informal) survey in several American manufacturing companies.
