Leaders will be more effective if they understand that not every decision requires the input of their entire team. The amount of team participation varies along a continuum from zero to total involvement. How much participation is ideal? It is simply not practical to canvass and consult with the team on every organizational issue, but where to draw the line is unclear. The decision analysis model of Vroom and Yetton (1973) provides a useful mechanism for the manager to consider.
