Ten strategic pitfalls …
‘Get fired for your own mistakes, not someone else’s.’
SIR TERRY LEAHY, ADVISER AND FORMER CEO, TESCO
Little did I know when I sat down with two of my partners, James George and David Hosein, that the subject of our relatively light-hearted debate could inspire so much constructive argument. Our major ‘day job’ preoccupation is with developing strategies to help our clients win. The topic of this conversation was radically different: what stops companies from winning? Indeed, what are the pitfalls that make for strategic failure?
We debated six failings, to which our CEOs, many of whom were keen to see this list of ‘deadly sins’, have added four more to our already life-threatening catalogue of ‘bear traps’.
