Abstract
Several practical problems call for controllable solutions that can increase performance and reserve valuable resources. In relevant problems, the objective is to determine the control signals that will cause a system/process to satisfy the physical constraints and at the same time minimize (or maximize) some performance criterion. In this appendix, we will present some fundamental elements of optimal control theory that address the above considerations and constitute the basis for the malware modeling frameworks presented in the third chapter of the main part of the book.
