See the High- and Low-Level Views

Just as you want to see your calendar in high-level views (yearly and monthly) and in more detailed views (weekly and daily), consider visualizing your portfolio the same way. I use the big picture so I can see the whole organization to know where we have committed to projects. I use the low-level picture to understand who is doing what and when. I find the detailed view especially helpful when the managers try to start assigning teams instead of people to projects and when a team has urgent support work.
