7.1 Introduction

Availability of financial resources and the conditions attached to their use influence the life of public and non-profit organizations and determine their ability to fulfill their institutional mandate. This chapter tackles the complementary aspects of: (i) the type of funding sources available to international organizations (IOs) to operate and the strategic and operational impacts of their evolution over time; (ii) the innovative financing mechanisms and tools being introduced to meet the challenge of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a rapidly changing landscape.
