Managing Relationships

While a manager has to be concerned about many types of interpersonal relationships in an organization, clearly the most important one to be managed is that of the supervisor–subordinate communication relationship (SSCR). Accordingly this will be the focus of this chapter, although reference will be made to managing other relationships such as those with coworkers. Managing interpersonal communication relationships dwells on issues that directly relate to the dosage metaphor, including compliance gaining and questions of intimacy and boundaries which focus on how much do I reveal to the other.
