Chapter 2. Evolving from Data Integration to Data Orchestration with SAP Data Intelligence

In this chapter we will introduce the core capabilities of SAP Data Intelligence and how it addresses the complex data integration challenges described in the previous chapter. We will start with a general overview of the solution, discuss in more detail the evolution of data integration to data orchestration, and provide some key highlights of how SAP Data Intelligence works with open source technologies for complex data processing.

As we mentioned in Chapter 1, data orchestration goes further than data integration. It combines data discovery, data preparation, data integration, data processing, and the connection of enriched data across complex landscapes with multiple endpoints and workflows. In this chapter, we will dive more deeply into data orchestration and discuss how SAP Data Intelligence provides the ability to orchestrate data across multiple open source technologies.

Fundamental Architecture

In order to maximize the flexibility of the solution and ensure that we can take full advantage of the advances in cloud infrastructure and software design, SAP Data Intelligence uses two key open source technologies as the fundamental underpinning of its design: Kubernetes and Docker. For those unfamiliar with these technologies, they are part of an exciting and evolving domain called “containerization.” These technologies completely abstract software applications from their underlying ...
