6 THE ISO 8000-61 APPROACH

ISO 8000-61 specifies an overall framework for data quality management. This chapter provides a brief explanation of each of the processes in the ISO 8000-61 model before subsequent chapters go into more detail about how to implement the framework within an organisation.

THE SCOPE OF ISO 8000-61

ISO 8000 is a developing suite of standards relating to data quality. Within this suite of standards, ISO 8000-61 defines an overall approach to data quality management. This approach forms the core method within this book and is based upon the ‘plan, do, check, act’ cycle described in ISO 9000.
