assignee: an employee of an organization who voluntarily chooses to be sent from their country of origin and/or permanent residence to a foreign country to work temporarily but does not take up citizenship of that country; see expatriate.

assignment failure: when the deliverables expected from an international assignment fall short of a company’s expectations; failure is typically defined as “premature return” but also includes under-performance and repatriation turnover, among others.
