Chapter 8. Team Leadership

Your approach to leadership has major consequences for the overall effectiveness of your team. To be an effective leader you need to be aware of your leadership style, recognise the implications of your actions and be able to understand how to alter your approach to get the most out of your team.

Team leaders also need to be adept at managing upwards and outwards. Managing your boss and recognising the needs of the stakeholders involved in your team’s success is important. This is especially so given the fact that often managers are operating in environments where they have little direct authority and need to rely on their ability to influence others in order to achieve results.
