In an ideal world, CEO transitions would occur with plenty of notice, the organization would be perfectly aligned, and the hardest decision would be deciding whom to select among a raft of perfectly fitted experienced candidates. However, in the real world, CEO transitions do not usually occur without a significant time frame between the exiting CEO and the organization’s readiness to appoint a new person.
