Adhesive Lamination
This chapter describes the adhesive lamination process and the use of the process to add functionality to flexible packaging materials. Surface, bulk, barrier, and sealant functions must be addressed by flexible packaging structures. Some or all of the functions may be provided by any one material and laminating allows combining multiple layers in order to adequately perform all the functions to the degree necessary. Physical properties of individual materials determine the laminating process and adhesive appropriate for any given structure. Lamination strength affects the ability of the layers in a lamination to reinforce other layers and strengthen the total structure. Coating processes provide the means of adding structural ...
