
3. Static data – the list of defining values that are associated with specific facts pub-
lished by data sources. In order to minimize data transfer overheads and space
requirements, these values are typically provided as look up or cross-referenced to
the actual data by data sources.
The focus within this guide is on the first two categories. Static data, while important,
is by definition created as a function of reference and business data. Secondly, static
data is by its very nature extremely detailed, varying considerably between data sources.
It is therefore treated to only an initial level of detail here.
