Background and Acknowledgments

As mentioned in the Foreword, much of the material in the book derives from the findings of the questionnaire used to review companies’ sales and marketing practices. It was collaboratively developed by four people and myself who were involved with the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP,, a federal program under National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland, comprising a nationwide network of more than 70 not-for-profit centers whose purpose is to assist small- and medium-sized manufacturers in implementing operational and strategic practices to strengthen their businesses.
