When people think of modern, new media communication, one of the characteristics that almost certainly comes to mind is its bite-sized nature. A question often asked by or to marketers is, “What’s your 140-character pitch?” (Twitter communications are limited to 140 characters.) Several micromedia examples exist across multiple platforms, but the example that fits most neatly into a Millennial marketing strategy is Twitter.
In this chapter, I look at the ways you can leverage Twitter to reach your Millennial audience. I also look at the types of video content you can create to engage Millennials.
Determining How Millennials Use Twitter
Twitter once served as a medium through which celebrities shared information on their day-to-day lives. Now, 63 percent of users claim to reference it as a primary news source (Pew); 81 percent of Millennial Twitter users check in daily (Twitter); and 15 percent of Millennial users check in more than ten times per day (Twitter).
