Methodology for Implementing Change Revisited

The Proven Path for Business Transformation

As was stated in Chapter 18, Oliver Wight developed an approach for managing change when implementing processes and process improvement, which, done correctly, leads to business transformation. Again, Oliver Wight calls this approach The Proven Path because the change methodology has been used successfully for nearly 50 years.

To review, this Proven Path change methodology encompasses:

  • Executive commitment, involvement, and leadership, which was discussed in the previous chapter;
  • Creation of a journey and operational vision, the business case for change, and return on investment, which was discussed in the previous chapter;
  • Implementation planning, preparation, execution, and control, which was discussed in the previous chapter;
  • Creating internal change agents, sometimes referred to as subject matter experts, which is discussed in this chapter;
  • Focus on structure (The Class A Standard) and a structured approach (The Proven Path) to ensure a successful implementation, which are discussed in this chapter;
