Lock Files with a Check-Out System
If you work on a site that is developed by a team of designers, you can run into problems when more than one designer attempts to edit a page at the same time. For example, say a coworker downloads the latest version of a file from the server and begins editing it. Later, you need to work on the same file, and so you go and download what you believe is the latest version. However, you are unaware that your coworker is already editing the page. In this case, one of the two of you — whoever finishes their edits and reuploads the page last — will overwrite the other's work.
