If you have a choice—and you do—why wouldn’t you choose an optimal outlook? If you apply the skill of motivation, you can be optimally motivated whenever and wherever you choose. So why not always choose to create choice, connection, and competence?

The excuse I usually get is if you don’t have an inherent outlook for a goal or situation, shifting your motivation requires conscious effort. Shifting your motivation becomes just one more thing to add to an already full to-do list.
