Alignments

Some roads were laid out hundreds of years ago by herds of cows; others were microdesigned by planners with careful consideration for each bend and twist. Either way, when working on a linear project, whether it be the renovation of an old New England cow path or a network of new subdivision roads, horizontal layout information will need to be conveyed to the contractor. This horizontal layout is called the alignment and drives much of the design.
