Chapter 4. Polygon Modeling

Modeling with polygons in Maya is quite different from the NURBS techniques you learned in Chapter 3. In some cases, it may feel a bit more intuitive. Rather than lofting surfaces across curves, polygon models are constructed by attaching flat geometric shapes together to form a volume. There are fewer restrictions when working with polygons, and for this reason they are more popular as a modeling tool than NURBS. However, NURBS and polygons are not mutually exclusive. As an artist, you can combine the two types of surfaces and take advantage of the strengths of both, as you'll see in this chapter.
